our approach

Sport creates powerful opportunities for growth. It teaches teamwork, resilience, communication, and accountability, but those lessons are not always named or supported in intentional ways.

lead well Athletics creates space for athletes to reflect, practice leadership skills, and better understand who they are becoming through sport. The work is age-appropriate, grounded, and centered on the whole athlete.

Why leadership development through sport matters

Sport is one of the most formative leadership environments available to young women. Research consistently shows that female athletes develop skills such as confidence, communication, teamwork, and resilience that carry beyond the field. Former athletes are also more likely to step into leadership roles later in their careers and communities.

At the same time, many girls step away from sport during adolescence due to pressure, burnout, or feeling disconnected. When leadership development is intentional and supportive, sport becomes a space not just for performance, but for long-term growth, belonging, and connection.

THE LONG TERM GOAL

The goal of lead well Athletics is not to produce a specific outcome or title, but to support athletes as they grow into confident, grounded leaders over time. Through shared experiences, guided reflection, and connection with other female athletes, this work is designed to help participants:

  • Recognize their leadership potential early

  • Build confidence that extends beyond sport

  • Develop communication and relationship skills

  • Learn to navigate pressure and expectations in healthy ways

  • Form supportive connections with peers who share similar experiences

Sport has the power to shape how young women see themselves. When athletes feel supported as whole people and connected to one another, the lessons of sport can carry forward into future leadership, careers, and communities.
